Community Action Network Election Forum
The Community & Whanau Network meets monthly and is attended by 40-50 representatives of NGOs and agencies working in the health and social services sector. CAN (Community Action Network) has held candidate forums for national and local elections since the 1990s. This year we have decided to focus on the mayoral election in Nelson city.
We invite candidates to introduce themselves and outline understanding of community sector issues and how council can support the sector.
Chair, Mary Ellen O’Connor, will then lead a Q&A session, based around these topics:
- The community investment fund
- Council’s responsibility for the wellbeing of Nelsonians
- Council assistance for vulnerable people
- Freeing up building compliance to address the housing shortage
- Emergency housing
There will also be an opportunity to network with attendees over a light lunch. Candidates for council are also being invited to attend, but will not be part of the panel discussion.
